Outpost Charters

Case Study | Baja California Sur, Mexico

My client had invested significant capital on the physical business, but had no online presence. With the start of the fishing season closing in it was time to step up the game and turn an expensive outlay into a profitable business.

1. Key Problems

  1. Poor imagery for the business

  2. Poor imagery of surrounding area

  3. No website

  4. No advertising materials

  5. Client not tech savvy

  6. Tight deadline before start of fishing season

2. Project Brief

  • Develop web design and branding strategies to attract new customers, leads and sales.

  • Use the newly created imagery to setup a powerful web platform with robust e commerce features.

  • Coordinate with the crew to stage and shoot the boat in a series of scenarios.

  • Develop cohesive style and branding across to print media for billboards, posters and flyers.

3. Overview

The charter fishing business in Baja is competitive and online customers like to shop around. As my client was charging a premium for his service it was paramount that the new website visually stood out from the crowd, ranked well in Google, was mobile response and easy for customers to book charters online.

Running multiple businesses and not being tech savvy meant he just didn't have time to learn complicated software. Therefore we quickly decided that Squarespace was the ideal platform for him, a powerful platform with intuitive admin features. He is now able to to add new content, change his pricing and update the blog without assistance.

Prior to the shoot, my client and I discussed exactly what he was looking to show customers with the imagery and what the final output would be (print/website/social media). We settled on 6 key images that would showcase the boat in it's element on the Gulf of California.

We had several delays due to mechanical issues and windy mornings, this was problematic as we specifically want to shoot the boat in the soft early morning light while on flat calm water. We got a break in the weather, the crew cleaned and stage the boat the day beforehand. Dispite the delays we can came away with some great imagery, ready for the web build.
